Global Arts Workshops

Taking place during the week of the Flint Hills International Children’s Festival, these Twin Cities artist workshops last one hour and cost just $3 per student! All Global Arts Workshops with the rest of the school performances.

HIP-HOP DANCE. Engage in this all abilities workshop where students learn the cultural origins of hip-hop and practice the fundamental dance styles of poppin’, lockin’, uprockin’, and breakin’. Tuesday, May 26 at 9:15am and 10:30am. Suggested Grades 3-8

INDIA: A CULTURE ALIVE WIT ART. Students learn north Indian storytelling and percussive Kathak dance as Rita Mustaphi uses song and dance to tell the stories of myths and legends from the epics and folklore of India. Wednesday, May 27 at 9:15am and 10:30am. Suggested Grades 2-6.

LATIN AMERICAN FOLKLORIC MUSIC. Explore the music and instruments of Latin American folkloric music with Ecuadorian Leo Lara. Students will learn the text and meaning of traditional songs and rhythms through interactive demonstrations and instrument try outs! Thursday, May 28 at 9:15am and 10:30am. Suggested Grades 2-6.

WEST AFRICAN MOVEMENT. Explore the movements that became the and many other modern dance styles through West African dance. Thursday, May 28 at 9:15am and 10:30am. Suggested Grades 3-8.

TAIKO DRUMMING. Learn the techniques and history of taiko artist. Students get the opportunity to play on a practice drum! Friday, May 29 at 9:15am and 10:30am. Suggested Grades 2-6.
