Education Intern

Department Description

The Education and Community Engagement Department at Ordway Center is responsible for the successful implementation of programs to support work that is presented onstage through the planet Ordway series, Performing Arts Classroom series, and Flint Hills International Children’s Festival. Artists in this season represent a global spectrum of cultural art forms and present their work to both school and public audiences. Education at Ordway Center works specifically with Twin Cities teaching artists from a variety of cultural communities and partners with school districts, arts organizations, and specific school sites in the Twin Cities to deliver programs.

Major Job Responsibilities

1. Work within the Education and Community Engagement Department in the development and administration of programs specific to the 2010 Flint Hills International Children’s Festival and Careers Exploration.

2. Assisting with Performing Arts Classrooms.

3. Festival Data Management under the direction of Education and Community Engagement staff.

4. Assist in the maintenance of social networking sites under the direction of Education and Community Engagement staff.

5. Other duties might include: maintenance of artist materials and filing, archiving photographs, and other duties as assigned.

6. Communicating and updating staff and supervisors of works in progress.

Job Duties

Communicating with staff members and program constituency, development of materials as assigned, assisting staff with events and matinee performances, working independently of The Ordway’s staff under the guidelines provided by project supervisors and internship supervisor, learning about and applying Ordway branding and policies to project design. The Ordway Center for the Performing Arts retains ownership of all project work made under the terms of the internship.

Qualifications

EDUCATION. High school or above.

EXPERIENCE. Administrative skills a plus; no experience necessary.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY. Excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve are essential for this position. Candidates must be punctual and reliable. Must possess the ability to manage independent projects and tasks; be organized, detail-oriented, and flexible. Familiarity with social media a plus. Interest in cultural art forms, visual arts, and the performing arts.

EQUIPMENT OPERATED. Personal computer and editing software, email, internet access.
