Education Intern

Department Description

The Education and Community Engagement Department at Ordway Center is responsible for the successful implementation of programs to support work that is presented onstage through the Target World Music and Dance series, Performing Arts Classroom series, and Flint Hills International Children’s Festival. Artists in this season represent a global spectrum of cultural art forms and present their work to both school and public audiences. Education at Ordway Center works specifically with Twin Cities teaching artists from a variety of cultural communities and partners with school districts, arts organizations, and specific school sites in the Twin Cities to deliver programs.

Job Purpose

Assist in the administration of education programs to support work on stage. Intern will work directly in the education department office with department personnel and will help with all responsibilities related to the administrative and management side of education outreach programming.

Major Job Responsibilities

1. Work within the Education and Community Engagement Department in the development and administration of k-12 education programming.

2. Assist in coordination and staffing programs, including educational presentations, performances, tradeshows, and workshops.

3. Assist in educational ticketing and marketing.

4. Work with education staff to develop and write educator study guides

5. Assist in evaluation collection and analysis related to education programs.

6. Communicating and updating staff and supervisors of works in progress.

7. Other duties may include: excel data bas input, photo taking and archiving, web research, organizing and collating education files, possibly serving as contact for teaching artists and educators. May write K-12 publication copy. Ordway Center retains ownership of all project work made under the terms of the internship..

Qualifications

EDUCATION. High school or above.

EXPERIENCE. Experience in working with diverse communities is desired. Prior clerical or administrative supports experience in a theatre, nonprofit, education or cultural environment a plus. Additionally, experience with community programming, event coordination, and project management preferred.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITY. Excellent communication skills and the ability to problem solve are essential for this position.  Candidates must be punctual and reliable.  Must possess the ability to manage independent projects and tasks; be organized, detail-oriented, and flexible.  Familiarity with social media a plus. Interest in cultural art forms, visual arts, and the performing arts. 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED. Personal computer and editing software, email, internet access.
