In its sixth year, Digital Kids brings a resident media artist into two Twin Cities' classrooms to lead classes through a documentary process that focuses on the Festival as its subject. Students fromSt. Paul and Minneapolis will begin researching Festival artists in the fall and will create a documentary that captures the art forms and cultures represented in the artist’s performance. In preparation for the interviews with company members, students learn the foundations of interviewing, documenting, editing, and researching with a local media artist. A final, edited copy of the documentary will be shown in the Box Office lobby during the Festival Family Days.

At Keewaydin, students were introduced to South Indian Carnatic music by musician and teaching artist Nirmala Rajasekar, and videotaped a workshop by and interviewed Israeli group, Esta. At Webster, students met artists from Xelias Aerials Arts and interviewed company members from The Birdhouse Factory. Thank you to teachers Sheila Martin, Colleen Fridlund, Robin Abel, and Brenda Butler, who coordinated their students’ involvement.
