Bush Challenge: First Year Goal Met

Thanks to our generous contributors, the Ordway has met and exceeded the $15,000 first-year challenge grant from the Bush Foundation, a private Minnesota grant-making foundation created by 3M executive Archibald Bush and his wife Edyth.  The Foundation invests in courageous leadership and engaged communities to significantly strengthen and improve the well-being of people in Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota.  For Ordway’s fiscal year 2009-10 the Bush Foundation has offered a $25,000 match for new and increased donations. Please consider making a gift by June 30, 2010, and your donation will be doubled! Thank you for supporting Ordway.

Support Ordway

Recognized internationally as one of the finest venues of its type, Ordway Center for the Performing Arts stands as the only world-class performing arts center in the region and is an invaluable asset to our community.

Since Ordway opened its doors in 1985, more than eight million people have enjoyed exceptional performing arts experiences in a world-class setting. Sally Ordway Irvine’s dream of a performing arts center that could offer "everything from opera to the Russian circus" has been realized, demonstrating what can happen when passionate visionaries, committed leaders, and generous individuals and foundations come together to achieve a common goal.

As a nonprofit organization, Ordway Center for the Performing Arts depends on the generous support of individuals, corporations, foundations, and government agencies to close the gap between earned income and expenses. In fiscal year 2010, 37% of the operating budget must come from contributions.

Ordway benefits the community by:

  • Bringing the highest quality Broadway musicals and theater such as Les Misérables, Chicago, Rent, Spamalot, and Irving Berlin’s White Christmas to the Twin Cities;
  • Producing musical theater using both local and national talent;
  • Providing a world-class home for our esteemed arts partners: The Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, The Schubert Club, and The Minnesota Opera;
  • Supporting presentations by local performing arts organizations including VocalEssence, Theatre Mu, and Theatre Latte Da;
  • Engaging local, national and international performing artists in the Target® World Music and Dance Series;
  • Celebrating art by bringing the best visual and performing talents right here to downtown Saint Paul for the week-long annual Flint Hills International Children’s Festival.
  • Providing support to our high school partner, the Saint Paul Conservatory for Performing Artists; and
  • Making arts accessible to children with discounted tickets and bus subsidies. In fact, Education at Ordway has made Ordway the #1 destination for Saint Paul and Minneapolis public school students for many years.
