Meet the Artists: Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss

SIX writing partners (and self-proclaimed queens themselves) Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss always knew they wanted to create a male-free musical. Their studies at Oxford, the prestigious British university, led them to the perfect group of unsung female characters: six women, all of them queens and married to the same notorious man – reduced by history to a simple mnemonic rhyme: divorced, beheaded, died, divorced, beheaded, survived. Tune in to the Meet the Artists season finale with the two 25-year-olds whose deceptively simple idea blew up into a global musical sensation. Nobody was more surprised than them. Join the conversation with the two-of-a-kind-no-category queens: Toby and Lucy – Live from London!

This conversation will last approximately 60 minutes, followed by a 20-minute audience Q&A session. Audience questions may be submitted throughout the program.

The event will stream live, and viewing is free, but capacity is limited—reserve your spot now!

About the Artists

Toby Marlow

In 2017, Toby Marlow co-composed and co-wrote the musical SIX. The musical received positive reviews at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and went on to be performed in the West End in London. On July 28, 2019, Marlow stepped into the role of Catherine Parr for two sold-out performances at London's Arts Theatre when a cast-wide illness struck and the show required a sixth performer. Marlow, along with his collaborator Lucy Moss, signed with Warner Chappell Music in August 2019. SIX began previews on Broadway at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre on February 13, 2020 and was scheduled to open on March 12, 2020.

Lucy Moss

Lucy Moss is a writer and director behind the new Broadway musical SIX. Originally from the West London neighborhood Ealing, Moss studied dance from an early age before transitioning into directing. She met her collaborator and writing partner, Toby Marlow, at Cambridge, where she was studying history and directing as many shows as possible with the university theater society. While they were both studying for their final exams, Marlow came up with the idea of a theatrical pop concert based on the six wives of Henry VIII. That show became SIX, which made its world premiere at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Instantly beloved, SIX went on to a brief London run, a UK tour, and a sit-down production on the West End that is still packing in the crowds.
