From Hollywood to Broadway, Broadway Songbook® Explores the Dance Between Two Giants of Entertainment
Sam Wisneski, Ordway 5/4/17
Broadway Songbook®: Hollywood & Broadway
The critically-acclaimed Broadway Songbook® series, now in its sixth season, will take to the Ordway Concert Hall stage once again May 14, and 18–21 with Broadway Songbook®: Hollywood & Broadway. Filled with extraordinary performances, inside stories, and amusing quips about some of Broadway’s most beloved hits, Broadway Songbook® provides an up-close and personal perspective on American popular music and some of the performers who know and love it.
In its earliest days, Hollywood relied on Broadway talent to bring musical movies to life. In recent years, however, Broadway has turned to Hollywood for source material. The Hollywood & Broadway edition of Broadway Songbook® considers the relationship between both these giants of entertainment, featuring a dynamic mix of songs from An American in Paris, La La Land, The Color Purple, Legally Blonde, 42nd Street, The Jazz Singer, Grease, The Wizard of Oz, and more.
Intimate, unpretentious, and overflowing with humor, Broadway Songbook®, explores the social and political effects of musical theater on American culture. Studded with hit musical theater songs throughout, these 90-minute shows explore the history, meaning, and influence of Broadway on American life. Hosted by Broadway veteran and Ordway Vice President of Programming and Producing Artistic Director, James A. Rocco, the Hollywood & Broadway edition will feature a cast of talented performers including Dieter Bierbrauer, Yolande Bruce, Kersten Rodau, and Erin Schwab, with musical direction by Raymond Berg.
