Mamma Mia!

Broadway Series, Ordway Music Theater

An Ordway Original

“A joyful experience.” — Star Tribune

“A slice of summer fun.” — Pioneer Press

Mamma Mia!, the international smash hit stage musical, kicks off the Ordway’s 2018-19 Broadway Series! More than 60 million people in 44 countries have experienced the Tony Award-winning musical, now a worldwide phenomenon. Set on an idyllic Greek island, Mamma Mia! follows a mother, her daughter, and three possible dads on an unforgettable trip down the aisle.

This beloved story is told through some of ABBA’s greatest hits like “Take a Chance on Me,” “SOS,” “Dancing Queen,” and of course “Mamma Mia.” The all-new Ordway Original production is directed by Martha Banta, the associate director for Mamma Mia! on Broadway; and features choreography by award-winning London-based artist Mitch Sebastian, and a cast composed of a variety of Minnesota talent and national artists.

You ABBA-solutely can’t miss this ultimate feel-good summer musical at the Ordway!

Every woman has their own story and sings a different song. This conversation, led by a panel of female media makers and artists, will dive deeper and across broad demographic lines, exploring where their stories converge and differentiate, all while reflecting on the themes in Mamma Mia! As a musical by women, for women, Mamma Mia! makes bold statements and raises questions about mother/daughter relationships, paternity, the role of marriage, and female friendships.

Thank You for the Music: The Evolution of the Jukebox Musical

Wednesday, August 1st
6:30-7:00 PM | Target Atrium

Mamma Mia! is one of the most popular examples of a “Jukebox Musical,” shows that create narratives based on a set of songs of a particular artist or group. The phenomenal success of Mamma Mia! inspired many others, including Jersey Boys, Beautiful, and Bat Out of Hell — which is also part of the Ordway’s 2018-19 Broadway Series. Join the Ordway’s New Producing Artistic Director Rod Kaats, Mamma Mia! Musical Director Raymond Berg, and members of the Mamma Mia! company for a discussion about how the jukebox musical is changing the way Broadway musicals are born, created, and experienced.
