Because of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Securities Act, known more widely as the CARES Act, taxpayers have the opportunity to receive significant tax benefits for their charitable giving in 2021. Tax Incentives Available to You An expansion of the universal charitable deduction for cash gifts has not only been extended from 2020 to 2021, but has also been given an upgrade. The new deduction is $300 for single filers and $600 for married couples filing jointly. This is available to taxpayers who take the standard deduction, and is not available for cash gifts to donor advised funds. The cap on deductions for cash contributions has been extended. The CARES Act lifted the cap on annual contributions for those who itemize, increasing it from 60% to 100% of a taxpayer’s adjusted gross income (AGI). Any excess contributions can be carried over to the next five years. For more information about the CARES Act and how it can inform your charitable contribution decisions in 2021, we recommend that you speak with your trusted legal, financial, and tax advisors.

Your employer may double or triple your gift!
Many companies match charitable donations made by employees, and some even match contributions from spouses and retirees. A match from your employer can effectively double or triple the impact of your gift!
The easiest way to find out if your employer will match your donation is to ask your human resources representative and request a matching gift form.
Once you’ve completed and signed the form, send it to the Ordway at:
Ordway Center for the Performing Arts Attn: Advancement Department 345 Washington Street Saint Paul, MN 55102
Questions? Please call the Ordway Advancement Department at 651.282.3036.

When you make a contribution to acknowledge a birthday, anniversary, special occasion, or in someone’s memory, you will receive a receipt for your donation. The Ordway will also inform your honorees of your thoughtful gift (the amount will be kept confidential). IRA charitable rollover
If you are 72 or older, the IRA rollover is a great way for you give directly to the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts through your IRA without paying federal income tax on the withdrawal. Your contribution will go right to work helping us produce and present the best Broadway musicals, dance, music, and comedy, as well as allowing us to continue developing and expanding youth and family programming.
The IRA rollover is now permanent.
The IRA rollover allows donors 72 or older (70 ½ if you turned 70 ½ before January 1, 2020) to transfer up to $100,000 per year directly from their IRA to charitable organizations.
An IRA rollover gift is a tax-exempt distribution from a traditional IRA. Qualifying individuals can make charitable gifts using pre-tax IRA assets rather than taking a distribution, paying income taxes, and using after tax assets to make a charitable gift.
An IRA rollover gift can be used to meet all or part of an IRA’s annual required minimum distribution.
Donors must ask their plan administrator to make a direct transfer of funds to a qualified public charity. It is important not to withdraw funds before making a gift.
Contact your IRA plan administrator and request a direct qualified charitable distribution from your IRA to the Ordway, a 501(c)(3) organization. The Ordway’s Tax ID number is 41-1428998.
Your IRA funds will be directly transferred to the Ordway.
Inform the Ordway of your gift and if you wish for your gift to be used for a specific purpose.
