Hip Hop styles are explored as sources for inspiration and vocabulary for choreography. Rennie Harris and his company members are well versed in the vernacular of Hip Hop, popping, locking, stepping, breaking, house and other styles that have emerged from the African American and Latino communities of inner-city America. This masterclass also includes exercises to develop muscle strength, flexibility, and stamina. Then, basic movement and techniques are defined, practiced, and developed into combinations tied to complex and often challenging, invigorating, and uplifting driving rhythms.

This workshop is part of “From the Ground Up: A Celebration of Hip Hop Culture,” co-curated with Maia Maiden Productions Curator and Director, Maia Maiden. For more info, please visit: ordway.org/FromTheGroundUp
