Volunteers needed: 2019 Flint Hills Family Festival

Do you like to see art in the park, and dream of dancing in the street? We’ve got music, dance, puppetry, arts, crafts, games, and fun — all in the middle of downtown Saint Paul! The Ordway is seeking volunteers for our annual presentation of the Flint Hills Family Festival. The festival will take place May 28–June 1, 2019.Our annual summer festival brings thousands of children and families to Saint Paul as the Ordway and surrounding areas transform with music, dance, art activities, and public art installations. Come on out, and we’ll give you a t-shirt and free food and drink.

In order to make the event a success, we will need several volunteers throughout the week to help with a variety of tasks.

Ushering – our most popular volunteer opportunity

Volunteers welcome guests to performances and assist audience members with questions and directions. If you are interested in volunteer ushering, it is required that you are available for one shift a month.

Ordway Spring Fête

The Spring Fête is the Ordway’s annual fundraising gala. Proceeds from the Spring Fête directly support access to the Ordway’s expanding Student Matinee Series; this year over 50,000 schoolchildren will travel by bus to experience a world-class music, dance, or musical theater performance. The Fête also benefits and celebrates the Arts Partnership Fund, which provides critical support to maintain the facility and offer greater access for the community to experience the performing arts. Volunteer sign-up for the Spring Fête will open in early February 2020.

Marketing Events

Work alongside our Marketing staff at events like Rondo Days, Selby Jazz Festival, and the Twin Cities Pride Festival to promote the Ordway, answer questions about the organization and its events and programming, and help us connect with the community. This volunteer opportunity also includes poster distribution.

Education Events

Throughout the year, the Ordway Education department has different programmatic events ranging from annual events, such as the Saint Paul Public School Honors Concert, to greeting school buses at student matinees and master classes. Different Education events are offered each year, depending on the season the programs and the various community engagement opportunities.

Administrative Opportunities

The Ordway has occasional, as well as ongoing, administrative opportunities for individuals that are interested. Opportunities include photo archiving, collating and stuffing of letters and season tickets, data entry, helping with registration at auditions, and more.

Volunteer benefits and hour tracking

The number of volunteer hours contributed impacts the Ordway’s ability to fulfill mission and vision. All volunteer hours are equally tracked and acknowledged to ensure all volunteer contributions are recognized.

Please remember to submit your Volunteer Hours Tracking Form after each event.

Ordway Events

After a volunteer accumulates 30 hours, they will receive two tickets to an Ordway performance. Ticket availability is subject to contractual agreement for tour productions; not all shows are eligible to be redeemed for volunteer hours. If a volunteer does not participate in a volunteer activity for 18 months, their volunteer balance is returned to zero.

Transportation Reimbursement

The Ordway will reimburse volunteers for parking and/or public transit expenses incurred as part of the volunteer activity. At large scale events, volunteers may receive a parking voucher for parking instead of a reimbursement.
