Air Play

Family Series, Ordway Music Theater

Ride the wind and dream with Air Play, a modern spectacle that brings to life the very air we breathe. Flying umbrellas, larger-than-life balloons, giant kites floating over the audience, and the biggest snow globe you’ve ever seen will make you gasp in wonder and laugh until it hurts.

Air Play is a circus-style adventure of two siblings journeying through a surreal land of air, transforming the ordinary into objects of uncommon beauty. Fabrics dance in the wind, balloons have a mind of their own, confetti turns into the night sky, and an enormous canopy of hovering silk forever alters their future.

The creation of husband-and-wife team Seth Bloom and Christina Gelsone, Air Play merges their circus and street theater performance art with the sculptural artistry of Daniel Wurtzel. With visual images seemingly sewn from the sky, this poetic ode to childhood will enchant and electrify the young and young at heart.

Ordway Pre-Show Play & Learn

Saturday, March 2, 2019
10:00AM | Target Atrium

Arrive one hour before the performance for Play & Learn Lobbies for activities led by our partners from the Science Museum of Minnesota’s KAYSC program for a morning of visual, interpersonal, and kinesthetic learning with art and science! Experience the wind tube, where you can try your hand at making a contraption that can harness the elements and fly to new heights. Try out the stomp rockets and go the distance, and see if your rocket car can make it to the finish line first. And check out the hot air balloons using regular household create floating balloons! A roaming ASL Interpreter and Audio Describer will be onsite for all the fun, and a quiet space will be available for those who need it. Play & Learn Lobby activities are accessible, family-friendly, and free to all ticket holders.
